QoL Meds opens pharmacy at CMHC
July 19, 2010
QoL Meds, a Pittsburgh-based pharmacy company, has opened a pharmacy in one of the housing facilities operated in Lawrenceburg by Community Mental Health Center, Inc.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening was held Tuesday, June 8. CMHC administrators and representatives of QoL Meds were on hand for the ceremony. The pharmacy, located in the basement of CMHC’s Ludlow Apartments facility, opened its doors Monday, June 7. A small crowd of CMHC clients and staff members also attended the grand opening. Those at the grand opening shared lunch and toured the new pharmacy.
CMHC has searched for a pharmacy partner for a few years, knowing that having pharmacy services readily available would help Center clients to access those medication and other services provided by the pharmacy. Many of those clients have been prescribed medications as part of their treatment.
Representatives of QoL attending the grand opening were: Larry Hart, QoL’s Director of New Business; Michael Van Der Zee, the company’s Director of Client Management; Linda Wygal, QoL’s Implementation Coordinator, and Lori Walke, pharmacist at the facility.
According to its website, QoL’s mission is “to improve the quality of life for people living with mental illness by establishing a higher level of prescriptive care,” which is indicative of a good fit with CMHC clients and services. QoL offers on-site medication coordination, state-of-the-art proactive prescription management, sample medication management, and in-depth medication education. The website says “QoL meds specializes in behavioral health consumers while providing a full-service pharmacy program.”
CMHC staff members are introducing clients to the pharmacy and anticipating that activity there will pick up quickly in the coming weeks. While the initial focus is on clients, Center staff members also will be able to access the pharmacy if they choose to.
“CMHC is pleased to partner with QoL Meds in providing pharmacy services to clients and staff members,” said CMHC Executive Director Tom Talbot. “QoL Meds will enhance our clients’ ability to access medication and other key pharmacy consultation and pharmacy services at a level that other pharmacies don’t deliver.”
“CMHC is excited about this evolution in care provision that will assist clients in moving toward recovery from their mental illnesses,” Talbot said.
